Aloe Vera Leaf Juice - Long used in cosmetics for its soothing effect, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, aloe is an excellent moisturizing ingredient.
Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) - Levels of this natural humectant decrease as we age. Sodium hyaluronate helps maintain the protective skin barrier and prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
Sodium hyaluronate itself is a large molecule (on the order of 1-1.5 million Daltons), too large to be absorbed by the skin. However, studies still show skin benefits of sodium hyaluronate, and it is widely used to prevent TEWL.
Sodium hyaluronate can be cleaved to a molar mass of less than 5,000 Daltons, and studies also show improved skin penetration from this low molecular weight sodium hyaluronate.
Both standard sodium hyaluronate and cleaved low molecular weight sodium hyaluronate are used in our formulations to form a surface barrier that helps prevent TEWL and to provide hydration for deeper skin layers, respectively.
Sodium PCA - A component of skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). Sodium PCA helps draw moisture to the skin and because of its small size is readily absorbed into the skin where it helps retain water preventing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
